A refugee from war-torn Paris in the late 1800's, Babette keeps house for two religious spinsters in a remote corner of Denmark. On receiving a legacy, she reveals that she was a famous chef and decides that the money will be spent on one final, extravagant gourmet meal for her employers and friends.
